Biographical Information

Dr. ir. Georgios Karagiannis holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente, Netherlands. From 1994 to 1998 he was working as Researcher at the University of Twente. In 1998 he joined the Ericsson Eurolab Netherlands, where he stayed until April 2003. From April 2003 to August 2014 he worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Twente. In September 2014 he joined Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf GmbH as Principal Strategist in Standardization and Industry Development. He participated in several SDOs and alliances, such as IETF, AIOTI, ETSI, BBF and OSGi Alliance. In particular, within (1) IETF, where participates since 2000 and (co)edited nine IETF RFCs, (2) AIOTI, he serves as the chair of the AIOTI WG Standardisation and member of the AIOTI Steering Board, and served as AIOTI Steering Board Chair in 2020, (3) OSGi Alliance, he held a position as alternate member of the Board of Directors until November 2018 and (4) BBF, he held editing positions in the context of Cloud Central Office (CloudCO) and 5G Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) activities. In 2021, he participated in the MANRS Vendor Task Force and contributed and supported initiating the MANRS Equipment Vendor Program (EVP).

Nominee Statement

In continuity with the activities fulfilled in the MANRS Vendor Task Force on initiating the MANRS Equipment Vendor Program (EVP), I apply to be elected as one of the seven MANRS Steering Committee members in order to provide support, guidance and oversight of the MANRS activities progress.

Such MANRS activities aim to improve the Internet security and resilience, by providing crucial solutions to reduce the most common routing threats, such as Internet route hijacking, route leakage, and address spoofing through cooperation among carriers, IXPs, CDN & cloud providers, equipment vendors, and policy decision makers.

The experience that I have gained (1) working for Huawei that is a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices and (2) during my role as AIOTI Steering Board Member and Chair and (3) alternate member of the OSGi Alliance Board of Directors, will be useful when fulfilling the role of MANRS Steering Committee member.
